3 Rules for Buying Nuts at the Store

  1. Avoid Seed Oils: Check ingredient labels carefully. Many commercial brands roast nuts in canola, soybean, or cottonseed oils. Look for raw, dry-roasted, or nuts roasted in coconut oil, avocado oil, or ghee.

  2. Sprouted or Soaked is Best: To bypass phytic acid (which blocks zinc, iron, and magnesium absorption), buy sprouted nuts or soak raw nuts in salted water overnight before drying/roasting.

  3. Store in the Fridge or Freezer: Because nuts contain delicate unsaturated fats, leaving them in a warm pantry causes the oils to go rancid and oxidize over time. Keep your nuts sealed in the cold to preserve freshness!
